SOUTH FACE, PILIER DU FRENEY, INTEGRALE DE PEUTEREY

The mythical,central Frêney pillar, in the Mont-Blanc is an exceptional and technically demanding itinerary first attempted in July 1961 by Walter Bonatti, Andrea Oggioni, Pierre Mazeau, Roberto Gallieni, Robert Guillaume, Pierre Kohlman et Antoine Vieille. Four of the above climbers died in this first attempt. It was on the 29th of August 1961 that C. Bonington, I. Glough, J. Duglosz et D. Whillans succeeded, directly followed on the same day by par R. Desmaison, P.Julien, I. Piussi, Y. Pollet-Villard.
